Dan BurkeB I O G R A P H Y

Daniel T. Burke, Principal of Burke Media Group, has delivered strong sales and professional representation to magazine clients since 2001. Each client receives the benefit of experience and expertise resulting from Dan's strong track record in sales, sales management and product development.

Publisher, Contract Magazine

As publisher of Contract, a magazine serving the architectural and interior design markets, Dan managed 17 dedicated and support personnel, produced market research and branding strategy, developed custom publishing projects such as Steelcase 360 Magazine, oversaw a dramatic redesign, and supervised the relaunching of the magazine's web site--including construction of the most comprehensive on-line directory available for commercial interiors products. Under his management, sales increased 24% between 1999 and 2000, and 14% between 1998 and 1999, while improving profitability.

National Sales Director, Miller Freeman Design Group

For four years, Dan served as national sales director of the New York City-based Miller Freeman Design Group (Contract, Facilities Design & Management and Architectural Lighting). As national sales director, he maintained a territory and managed a sales team of eight sales representatives (both in-house and independent) and two marketing personnel. He also managed lead fulfillment, pioneered new products and developed new partnerships with key industry executives and trade associations. Under Dan's leadership, sales and image increased significantly for Miller Freeman's construction market titles. Between 1997 and 1998, for example, sales for the Group increased 34%.

District Manager, The McGraw-Hill Companies

Prior to joining Miller Freeman, Dan served as district manager for Environmental Engineering World, a publication of The McGraw-Hill Companies, where he was resopnsible for overall display advertising space sales for this start-up publication. In this role, he managed a national sales team and worked with the VP/publisher, editor and marketing staff to develop and implement marketing strategies, sales tools and support services.

Senior Account Manager, Group C Communications

As Senior Account Manager for East Coast and Midwest territories for Todays' Facility Manager, Dan increase sales volume by more than 200% during a time when this market's publishers as a whole experienced a decline in sales. In his last two years at Today's Facility Manager, he generated more than $2.1 million in sales, developing significant new accounts and increasing market share; due to this success, he was named the company's top salesperson for three consecutive years. He also improved sales planning, presentation and customer service standards.

Personal Interests

Dan enjoys jazz and blues and plays trumpets for several bands, including Line Drive, which played Rockefeller Center during the televised New York City Christmas Tree Lighting in 1999.
